A Sculpture Gift, Inspired By Art History.
This Charming Sculpture Reproduces A Small Corinthian Aryballos, Or Oil Flask, In The Form Of An Owl, An Emblem Of The Goddess Athena. During The 7Th Century, The Greek Region Of Corinth Developed A Unique Style Of Pottery Influenced By Trade With Areas East Of Greece. While Athenian Pottery Was More Geometric, This New Corinthian Aesthetic Featured Plant And Animal Motifs. Small Flasks For Oil Or Perfume Were Portable And Perfect For Export. The Richly Decorated Aryballos That Inspired This Sculpture Bears A Hole Through The Owl’S Foot For A String, So That It Could Be Hung Up For Display Or Carried Around The Wearer’S Wrist.
